Jon Cooper - Archaeologist
Today we watched Mr. Jon Cooper.
I learned a lot about Singapore's history, and many things that happened 70 years ago. I enjoyed learning about Singapore's history because before the session with Mr. Cooper, I didn't know anything about the POW places, and before, I didn't know about the Lost Shinto Shrine.
The most interesting thing I found out was about the [not really] Lost Shinto Shrine.
Something I can use to help me in my research is the different ways of getting information. Mr. Cooper taught us many different ways of finding what you want.
Questions I have for Mr. Cooper about World War 2 in Singapore:

Questions I have for Mr. Cooper about World War 2 in Singapore:
- If the POW snuck in ceiling fans, how did they get them going?
- When did the physical fighting start in WW2?
- Who started the war?

Peter Brown Visiting Author

The most interest thing I learned today was how much editing and revising it takes to make one book, and how important word choice is.
Questions I would like to ask him are:
- How old were you when you decided that you wanted to be and author and illustrator?
- How long does it normally take you to write, and illustrate one book?
- How long does it normally take to publish a book?
- What book are you most proud of?
- Have you ever written or illustrated an adults book?
- Who's your biggest inspiration?
Other books.
- What is your favorite place you traveled?
- What was the year of when you wrote your first book?
I learned that every single word makes a difference, and is crucial. I learned that in stories, your first draft is never your last. I also learned that you should really take your time to plan out your story.

The Magician's Elephant
Our class have just finished reading The Magician's Elephant, by Kate DiCamillo.
A synopsis of this story:
The main character, Peter Agustus Duchene, goes to a fortune teller to ask about his sister (where she is, and if she's alive). The fortune teller's answer was: an elephant.
In an opera house, a magician is trying to cast a spell and tries to make lilies appear, but instead, he accidentally makes an elephant appear.
The magician goes to jail for making the elephant appear, and because the elephant crushes Madame Lavaugn's legs.
Next, Peter visit's the gloomy magician to asks him too return the elephant back to her home, because Peter had promised the elephant that he would bring her, the elephant, back home. The magician says he can bring the elephant back home if Peter brings the elephant to him.
When Peter is on his way back to the jail with the elephant, he finds his sister Adele.
When they finally got to the prison, as the magician said he would, he DID send the elephant back to her home.
My favorite character is the elephant because she ends up helping Peter find his sister, without even knowing it!
What I liked most about the was the suspense and the dreams, because they always showed that something big was going to happen.
