Google Advanced Search Techniques

I think that knowing Google Search Techniques are important, because you can narrow your search down to find specific results.

Here are some things we learned about:

  • Put quotation marks to find the exact words in the search.
  • Write:
allintext:_________ <-then your search, to find the the exact words you wrote, in your results.
  • Write:
    allintext:_________ -_______________
                  ^ then your search            ^
                                                  what you want to exclude

To show what you want to exclude and what you want.
  • Got to search tools to refine the search by time reading, reading level, country, etc.
    • Search what you want.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Go to Advanced Search.

Fitness Goal Setting

Upper Body Strength (Push-Ups)

I don't really have to work as hard for my push-ups, since I'm in the healthy range. I still want to get better, so I will make a goal of getting a score of 15-20 push-ups. I will try to achieve this goal by doing about 30 push-ups everyday, some modified, and most real push-ups.

Cardiovascular Fitness (Pacer Test)

I did okay in the Pacer test, though I still was in the Healthy Range for the Pacer test, I only got a score of 24. I will make a goal of getting a score of 28 or more, next time I do a Pacer Test. I will try to achieve this goal by doing 15-20 minutes of running activities 3+ time per week, including school activities.

Abdominal Strength (Curl-Ups)

I think I need to work the most on my curl-ups. I didn't get in the Healthy Range for curl-ups, so I will make a goal of getting to the Healthy Range next time. I will try to achieve this goal by doing about 46 or more curl-ups everyday.

Flexibility - Sit and Reach (Measured in Centimeters)

Sit and reach is the only topic I got over the Healthy Range. My goal for sit and reach for the next sit and reach test is to get a score slightly higher than what I recently got, 32 centimeters. I will do this by continuing to stretch everyday.

Service Learning Semester Two

Today we read the Lion and the Mouse from Aesop's Fables. I think the big idea of this story is "Appearances", because appearances don't matter, and the smallest things can do the biggest, and greatest things. I think that that is the theme because the small mouse saved the lion from the net.

This story connects with our visit to the Methodist Home, because the residents of the Methodist Home is like the lion, who needs our help and company, and we are the mice giving it to them.

Our class goals for our next visit to the Methodist Home could be:

  • To make the residents (of the Methodist Home) happy, and feel welcomed.
  • To share our time, and make them feel special.

Informational Writing Celebration

The best thing about Informational Writing was I learned many different perspectives of how people see my writing, and I took in some feedback to guide me on what I should do next time.
Next time I will add a glossary and make my presentation more "interesting" and less "boring" as Emily said. I may also make an index.
I learned from my peers about New Zealand and how to swim (even though I know how to swim)! I also learned that some people don't know much about Greek Mythology, so I should make a glossary.
I ate a ridiculously small amount of popcorn because someone, (a.k.a. Jake) spit chewed up popcorn into my popcorn.

Jump-A-Thon

Today we did our grade 5 fundraising project, Jump-A-Thon, for Tabitha.

The BEST thing about about today was that the Jump-A-Thon was basically a free time in the car park playground, but jumping for a good reason. I think that it was really fun that we can have fun while also helping people.
